Life Is Short, Lick the Bowl

Lolo’s Bowls is a fairly new restaurant that has brought a taste of Hawaii to Lake County.

Lolo’s Bowls is in its early infancy as a restaurant, yet has done nothing but satisfy their customers. Located in Libertyville, it is about 35 minutes away from Antioch, but customers claim it is well worth the drive. The business is owned by Libertyville High School graduate Lauren Schick, alongside a helping hand from her family. Starting at eight dollars for a regular size, the business is known primarily for their delicious and customizable açaí bowls. According to Tehrene Firman from Good HouseKeeping, the açaí berries are found on their own palm trees in South American rainforests, and are very similar to grapes. The fruit is considered a superfood and is only 70 calories per cup.

Along with the açaí bowls, Lolo’s also has other healthy snack options. Their menu includes various flavors of smoothies, one being the ¨Blue Banana”, containing blueberries, peanut butter, bananas, honey and almond milk. Avocado toast is also an option, along with a waffle called Bite of Hawaii; the protein waffle is topped with blueberries, strawberries, bananas, coconut whipped cream and a honey drizzle.

“I had an açaí bowl and avocado toast; both were very good,” senior Miranda Chamberlin said. “I definitely would go there again because of the good food and cute atmosphere.”

The restaurant has a very modern look. The location has a variety of dine-in seating and large windows that let in an abundant amount of natural lighting. There is greenery towards the floor, and inside is fairly small, but the location has an earthy and homey feel to it. The wall art is the slogan that says “Life is short, Lick the bowl,” which is a fan favorite and perfect for pictures. Although the menu is still growing, it is uniquely designed on a chalkboard wall, with vibrant colors and descriptions of each food item.

Lolo’s bowls is a friendly family-oriented business that welcomes each of their customers with a smile. With a strong heart, the business has a motive: a portion of weekly açaí bowl sales is donated to Feed My Starving Children to help fight child hunger. The company promotes this movement with the hashtag #DoGoodWhileEatingGood. If one is looking for a healthier and filling snack option, then Lolo’s Bowls is a unique location to Lake County.
