Elisa Metzger teaches her math II honors students how to simplify radicals during her fifth hour class.

In a year filled with new faculty members, Antioch Community High School welcomes Elisa Metzger. The newest edition to the math department teaches Math II and Math II honors, transitioning from teaching only Algebra I at Libertyville High School.

Being a Lake County native, Metzger is a natural born teacher. Before deciding on her profession, she began instructing piano lessons at the age of 11. In addition, she found joy in learning different math skills. Metzger took her passion for teaching to a new level in college by studying math and math education.

From any eyes, this young woman has a number of impressive accomplishments under her belt. But Metzger feels that she did not need to be so hard on herself in regards to her studies.

“Grades are important,” Metzger said. “But you can do well without having to be perfect and still feel really good about yourself if you’re doing your best work.”

Excited for the school year, Metzger hopes to form relationships with her students and colleagues in this next chapter of her life.
