A recent spree of theft has come to Antioch Community High School after numerous reported incidents of money and other valuable items being taken from the backpacks of four anonymous sophomore girls. These thefts all took place on different days during different gym periods. The girl’s backpacks were not locked up in their gym lockers.

Physical Education and varsity soccer coach Marni Polakow said, “We have incidences when students leave their bags out on the bench or next to the locker, but that’s what causes theft: students not locking their backpacks in their gym locker.” When students have items stolen from them during their gym class and their bag was not locked up, faculty cannot take any action in figuring out who the thief was, considering that students are instructed to lock up all of their belongings during gym class. Unless a student has an idea of who may have stolen their items, faculty is not responsible for those lost or stolen.

Students are strongly recommended to lock up all valuable belongings in their gym lockers during gym class, along with their cellphones and money.
