New Defensive Scheme

The girl’s basketball has acquired a new defense.

People haven’t quite noticed that the Varsity girl’s basketball team has a new defensive plan. They used to run a man defense that was more help side oriented, but recently they have turned to a more aggressive style and are trapping the ball handler and forcing turnovers left and right.

“The new defense is really quick, intense and super aggressive,” junior Kayla Burkhart said.“It has been really successful in games so far. It helps transition the ball from defense to offense really well.”“It has been really successful in games so far. It helps transition the ball from defense to offense really well.”

Since the defensive plan baits the other players into passing the ball, the girls can steal it and pass the ball up quickly to score more points.

“I also like that the new defense allows us to communicate with each other better,” Burkhart said.

Communicating with teammates is very beneficial for teams, because players can call out plans and possible situations that are happening in a game to stop  the other team.

The girl’s new defense has had much success so far. With the defense leading to more steals, it has the girls running the scoreboard and dominating other teams.

Come out to support the girls at their next game Saturday, January 28, at home against the Round Lake Panthers at 1 pm.
