Beginning on March 30 and continuing through April 2, Antioch Community High School held its very first Writers Week with a collection of performances in the auditorium throughout the week by distinguished writers, artists and performers. The festivities were organized by English teacher Katharine Giertych, all English classes attended the performances during the week to see different featured speakers such as James Grippando, Rebecca Johns, Joel Chmara, Dr. Pamela Nettleton, Patricia McCormick, Andy Schmidt, Erica O’Rourke, Jonte Edwards, Wojtek Krupka, Joe Aguilar, The Second City, Menton Matthews and Young Chicago Authors.

The wide variety of speakers that participated in the event helped target a broader spectrum of students to impact. Artists, actors, journalists and authors came and talked about their journey to get where they are, challenges they faced and gave advice for aspiring students and writers. Workshops were in place all week during lunch hours for students to participate in and learn from the speakers more about writing. Many students enjoyed the weeks festivities and appreciated all the hard work that went into planning the week and the time that these speakers took out of their schedules to come speak at ACHS. Writers Week will be a new tradition at ACHS, and definitely was written off as a success.
