Democratic candidate for President Hillary Clinton visited Vernon Hills this past week to rally support for the Illinois primary. Having lost a projected triumph in Michigan, it is vital that Clinton win the hearts of Illinoisans to continue her success.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders defeated Clinton in Michigan by 1.5 percent of the Democratic vote. To recover, Clinton looked to the suburbs of Chicago for support. There was a huge turnout; the fire limit of the gymnasium allowed 800 people, so a few hundred more were sent to overflow rooms where they could listen to the rally on speakers. Additionally, a large group of supporters remained outside for lack of space in the building.

Senior Arabella Gigliotti was one of those lucky enough to be situated inside.

“It was a lot of fun,” said Gigliotti. “I got to shake [Clinton’s] hand twice.”

Despite the apparent success Clinton encountered at this rally, the fight is far from over. She, along with other presidential candidates, have a slew of primaries to win on Tuesday, March 15. Clinton won the Florida and Ohio primaries, but the Illinois and Missouri primaries remain too close to call at publishing time.
