The Antioch Community High School Sequoits faced the Lake Zurich High School Bears in a high-stakes rematch during the second round of the IHSA 6A Playoffs. Despite a valiant effort, the Sequoits fell short of victory, 35-0, but their determination left a lasting impression. The Sequoits entered the game hoping to avenge their Week 2 loss to the Bears and advance further in the playoffs. Coach Jordan Eder reflected on his team’s preparation and confidence heading into the rematch.
“I thought we were in a position to be in a very close and competitive game,” Eder said. “And would be in a position to win the game in the fourth quarter.”
The Sequoits entered the game under immense pressure, determined to prove themselves against their toughest opponent of the season. Facing Lake Zurich for the second time, they saw the rematch as an opportunity for redemption and were prepared to leave everything on the field. Eder recognized both the challenges and advantages of meeting the same rival twice in one year.
“Playing someone a second time gave us the opportunity to break down the first game and use that in our game plan,” Eder said.
Similarly, Lake Zurich Head Coach Ron Planz recognized the unpredictable nature of rematches, especially this late in the season.
“I was concerned about playing Antioch a second time,” Planz said. “Both of us were very different teams than when we played back in Week 2.”
Late-season playoff games are rarely one-sided, and both coaches knew this matchup would come down to the wire. With standout performances, including dynamic runs from junior Gavin Stone and key receptions by sophomore Logan Lennon and senior Damion Johnson, the game remained competitive throughout. Both teams gave their all, and the Sequoits left everything on the field. While the loss ended their playoff journey, for the Sequoits, the most meaningful takeaway was the chance to compete alongside teammates they consider family one last time this season.
“I’m just glad I got to play with a great group of friends and my forever family,” Lennon said.
While the loss marked the end of the Sequoits’ season, the players walked off the field proud of their effort and the unbreakable bonds they formed as a team.
