Hearts racing, blood boiling, and sweat brewing , the girls Varsity basketball team stepped on to their home court to take on the Wauconda Bulldogs.  At the end of the night, the Sequoits came up victorious as they defeated the Bulldogs 53-33.

“To start the game I was a little nervous, but I was mostly excited to get the season started. I think the team was the same way. We played five games already but since it was our first conference game, the games that really count, it made sense to be nervous,” senior Amy Reiser said

“This was our last first home game for me and the rest of the seniors. Going into this game made me feel sad, but excited at the same time,” senior Erika Gallimore said.

The Sequoits started of strong in the first quarter as they quickly got on the scoreboard with senior point guard, Ashley Reiser’s first three-pointer. Ashley Reiser was the highest scorer in the game with 19 total points, four of which were three-pointers. The second two top scorers were Amy Reiser and Erika Gallimore, both with a total of eight points. By halftime, Antioch held the lead 32-13 over Wauconda.

“We all knew that since we were winning we had the advantage but we could not be over confident or else we could loose our lead,” Amy Reiser said.

The Sequoits stayed strong throughout the second half, the girls continued to battle for every ball and rack up points; they held a 22 point lead by the end of the third quarter. During the fourth quarter, Antioch stayed ahead as they worked together in order to secure the home win. By the end of the night, the Sequoits won their first conference game 53-33.

“I was very confident that we could use our teamwork to win, Wauconda was unable to make it past our aggressive and quick defense,” Gallimore said. “Winning our first home game felt great, it is an exciting feeling to win in front of our fans and all the people willing to support us.”
