The ACHS Speech Team had memorable year thus far, placing first at their first tournament, second at their second and third at their third.

“This year we’ve had a really good season,” junior Sydney Morrow said.

Morrow said they are hoping to continue the streak at their upcoming invitational tournament this Saturday, Jan. 30. The competition will help the team get into the right mindset for Regionals.

“It’s not really going to determine anything for this year until we get to Regionals,” Morrow said. “Then we’ll know.”

While they have placed at every tournament they attended this season, the team has also been successful in embracing new members.

“We just have a lot of different people [this year], and it’s really exciting,” said Morrow. “Last year, we only had about four people.”

Eight members qualified to compete at the Catholic Forensics League Grand National Tournament over Memorial Day weekend in Sacramento, California. Those members include freshmen Kenzie Michalski and Evangeline Swanson in Duo Interpretation, juniors Devan Babcock and Jack Connelly in Duo Interpretation, Morrow in Oral Interpretation of Literature, junior Elizabeth Taylor in Dramatic Performance, senior Cassandra Deaner in Original Oration and senior Gennifer Geer in Extemporaneous Speaking. Junior Gabrielle Kalisz and Swanson qualified as alternates.
