1. “FOOTLOOSE” DRAWS RECORD ATTENDANCE

The spring musical performed its final show last Sunday afternoon. The musical had four public performances. For the first time in recent memory, three of those performances sold out. The four performances capped off a week of festivities that included a pep rally and themed days.

2. PRINCE FOUND DEAD AT 57

The iconic musician was found dead in Minnesota. He had reported health problems earlier this month. Prince had a ceremony following his cremation last weekend. Loyal fans across the globe expressed their love for the artist, best known for his hits in the 1980s.

3. HARRIET TUBMAN TO APPEAR ON MONEY

Tubman’s selection to appear on the $20 bill will mark the first time that a woman and an African-American will appear on U.S. paper currency. The Treasury reportedly opted to remove former president Andrew Jackson from the bill after intense lobbying from both civil rights groups and fans of the popular musical “Hamilton”, which is based off of Alexander Hamilton, who appears on the $10 bill.

4. CHICAGO SPORTS DAZZLE

The Chicago Blackhawks scraped away a 6-3 win in game six of the first round of the NHL Playoffs to advance to a do-or-die game seven next Monday. Meanwhile, the Chicago Cubs are on a tear, headlined by pitcher Jake Arrieta’s no-hitter last week. The Cubs, who are ranked among the top teams in the league, are looking to win their first World Series in over a century.

5. ANTIOCH WINS BUFFALO WILD WINGS FUNDRAISER

The competition with four other local schools was officially won by Antioch last week. The fundraiser, which was promoted by Sequoit Pride, won more than $5000 for the school over three separate days.

6. SOLAR PLANE CROSSES PACIFIC

The plane landed in San Francisco after two and a half days of continuous flying. The plane, Solar Impulse 2, has the wingspan of a 747 yet weighs as much as an SUV. Solar Impulse 2 was grounded in Hawaii for almost 10 months after human error destroyed the batteries in the plane.

7. HOUSTON FLOODS AFTER RAIN

More than 18 inches of rain in some areas of Houston caused deep flooding in the area. Meteorologists estimate that the floods reached a 500-year high during the storms. At least five people have died, and dramatic videos of cars sinking into water have surfaced in the following days.

8. PROM TICKETS GO ON SALE

The first opportunity for students to purchase prom tickets was last Saturday morning. Students who still wish to purchase tickets have opportunities to buy tickets on Monday and Tuesday. Remember that tickets are $90, students should purchase with their table group and every two students must have a permission slip filled out.

9. SUPERSTAR ALBUM RELEASES SCATTERED ACROSS LATE APRIL

Pop star Beyonce released her new album “Lemonade” last Saturday. The album, which is only available on Tidal, is a deeper look into her life. Meanwhile, rap mogul Drake’s new album, “Views from the Six”, is set to release on April 29.

10. ASTRONAUT SETS RECORD FOR MARATHON IN SPACE

British astronaut Tim Peake set the record for the fastest marathon in space last Sunday. Peake ran at the same time as the London Marathon, and finished in three hours and 35 minutes. Two people ran the race on Earth in astronaut suits along with Peake to raise money for charity.
