1. FORMER FIRST LADY DIES

Nancy Reagan, wife of former President Ronald Reagan, passed away Sunday morning. Nancy Reagan met her husband in the film industry, and later joined him in politics as he became governor, and later president. She died of heart failure. Nancy Reagan was 94.

2. ASTRONAUTS RETURN AFTER YEAR IN SPACE

Astronaut Scott Kelly and Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko returned to Earth after spending 340 days on the International Space Station, the longest anyone has been in space. Kelly will be studied alongside his twin brother, Mark, to learn about the effects of zero-gravity on the human body.

3. BOYS BASKETBALL WINS REGIONALS

The boys won the game for the first time in decades on Friday, with a 57-56 home victory over Carmel. The boys advance to play at Ridgewood on Wednesday. The boys’ victory means that both varsity basketball teams won regionals this year.

4. COLTS, BRONCOS GREAT PEYTON MANNING TO RETIRE

Peyton Manning is expected to announce his retirement on Monday, according to ESPN. He retires with records including most passing yards, most touchdown passes and most wins of all time. Manning ended his career with a Super Bowl victory with the Broncos in February.

5. PRIMARY ELECTIONS SHOW LEADS FOR CLINTON, TRUMP

Fourteen states held primary elections on March 1, dubbed “Super Tuesday”, while another 5 states held primaries on Saturday. Republican Donald Trump emerged as the apparent victor from the week, with Ted Cruz being his only real adversary. Meanwhile, Democrat Hillary Clinton has a dominating lead over Bernie Sanders.

6. ANTIOCH TALENT COMES OUT IN FULL FORCE

Sequoit actors performed the winter play last weekend, “And Then There Were None.” The annual variety show showcased the talents of many Sequoit students and staff on Saturday. The auditorium will be busy for much of the spring, as well: rehearsals for “Footloose” will continue until the April performances.

7. SIGNS OF EARLY SPRING SHOW

Wild temperature swings have swept across the Midwest since late February. While the end of last week led to chilly winter temperatures and snow, this week may reach as high as 65 degrees on Tuesday, with unseasonably high temperatures lasting well through the week.

8. SYRIAN CEASEFIRE MEETS MIXED RESULTS

The civil war in Syria has been in a ceasefire since February 27. Aid convoys have taken advantage of the peace to deliver food and supplies to civilians. However, not all has been calm: at least 135 people have been killed in ceasefire zones.

9. UFC 196 HAILS MAJOR UPSETS

Arguably the biggest night in mixed martial arts in 2016 saw women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm fall to underdog Miesha Tate. Her loss puts Holm’s rematch bout with Ronda Rousey in doubt. Conor McGregor also fell to a bloody Nate Diaz, after McGregor gained 35 pounds to challenge Diaz.

10. NORTH KOREA THREATENS UNITED STATES AGAIN

Pyongyang claimed that they would use nuclear force against the United States and South Korea multiple times this week. Experts still doubt whether the North Koreans can create a nuclear warhead. The United States and South Korea have 315,000 troops participating in training exercises this week, which North Korea took as a threat.
