Chicago Physics Competition Welcomes ACHS Students

Students build complex machine to open umbrella.

On Friday, Antioch Community High School science teacher Howard Citron and 17 ACHS students went to Navy Pier in Chicago to compete in the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest by Argonne Laboratory. The Rube Goldberg Machine that they competed with used a series of small reactions to complete one big task: opening an umbrella. Citron said this experience is very beneficial for the students involved.

“It provides them with experience working as a team, problem solving skills, engineering skills [and] greater understanding of how the physical phenomenon of our universe work,” said Citron.

Not only is this an amazing educational experience for the students involved it is a good experience to learn as a team and work together.
