A+New+Remedy

A new type of remedy is in town and its taking a more natural approach. Aromatherapy uses plant materials and aromatic plant oils, including essential oils and other aroma compounds for improving mental and physical well being.

Essential oils can be used through topical application, massage, inhalation depending on the type of response the person would like to get.

Oil diffusers and just using the oils in their natural state are some of the most popular ways to use. The essential oils have multiple uses ranging anywhere from helping reduce anxiety and helping with headaches to being used to help create cleaners.

One of the most popular remedies has to do with helping headaches.

According to Dr. Axe, “Applying peppermint essential oil topically across the forehead and on the temples effectively alleviates a tension headache.”

Peppermint oil isn’t the only oil used to help with headaches either. Multiple oils can help with multiple things making them widely enjoyed due to their versatility. Sophomore Abby McWilliams uses essential oils for a lot of different reasons.

“I use them [essential oils] because they’re a natural way to get better,” McWilliams said. “So you don’t put a bunch of chemicals in your body.”

Not only do essential oils have multiple uses ranging anywhere from aromatherapy techniques to cleaner but they also provide natural forms of medicine. If a person is looking for a more natural approach in their life, essential oils might be the right fit for them. Although many are still skeptical if they work, it doesn’t hurt to try the next time anxiety and headaches are a problem.
