Joker, one of the most talked about films of 2019, is nominated in 11 different categories. The lead actor of the film, Joaquin Phoenix, was nominated for “Performance by an actor in a leading role” for his performance as Arthur Fleck, also known as Joker. Other films nominated for “Best motion picture of the year” include Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood, which received mixed reviews, as well as Ford v Ferrari, which was received well by critics.

“I thought [Ford v Ferrari] was a really good movie,” junior Lilya Ocampo said. “The race car driver was casted perfectly. I couldn’t see anyone else playing that character, and all the music and sound in the movie was amazing as well.”

The Academy is also recognizing the outstanding animated films from the previous year, nominating films such as How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and Toy Story 4

“Disney always makes good movies,” junior Emma Allen said. “I’m not surprised it got a nomination. It definitely deserved it, although I wasn’t a huge fan of the ending.”
