The Antioch Dance team competed at the Northern Lake County Conference on Friday, January 11. So far this season, the team has placed in the top three at each competition, which gave them the confidence going into the conference championship. Overall, the dance team feels very confident about their performance. Feeding off each others’ energy seems to be a big reason in Antioch’s success this season.

“I think that we did very well and we fed off of the energy which made us perform well,” senior dancer Alexis Yaris said.

With a great performance, the team came out victorious and took the title of conference champions. Even though the performance seemed outstanding, the team still feels they have areas to fix and perfect in the dance.

“I believe we could’ve focused more before going out on the floor so we get in the zone,” senior Casey Kiyohara said.

At the time of awards, those who demonstrate great sportsmanship throughout the season are awarded the sportsmanship award as chosen by their coach, Stephanie Kischuk. Sophomore Alyssa Colpaert received this award and represented Antioch when they were awarded the first place trophy.

The varsity dance team is competing next for a chance to qualify to the state championship at Warren Township High School on Saturday, January 19.
