In Friday’s game against cross-town rival Lakes Community High School, the girls basketball team dominated the Eagles, 47-29. One of the most anticipated games of the season turned out to be very exciting for the Sequoits.

“Our team played great,” junior Erin Miller said. “Something that stood out was that we were playing as a team and were working cohesively with each other.”

The Sequoits were struggling in the first half, but that didn’t seem to be a problem the second half. The second half the girls seemed to go back to the basics and execute just the little things.

“We struggled a little bit in the first half, but after halftime there was a big energy boost,” junior Jada-Ashley Shaputis said. “I think we played well against them because we put to use a lot of skills that we had been working on in practice, like staying low in our defense and knowing where the man and ball is at all times.”

As a team, there are always things to improve on. Whether it is the fundamental skills, or the very difficult things. The game revealed some of the plays the Sequoits need to work on, but according to junior Cassidy Thomas, defense is the most important thing to work on.

“As a team, we need to improve on our defense and by fixing our defense it will help to make our offense stronger,” Thomas said.

The Sequoits have started off the season very strong and plan on ending it even stronger. The Sequoits have a winning record of 7-6 and plan on winning their games throughout the rest of the season.
