The 2016-2017 cheer season was a good one for Antioch. From football season, to basketball season and through competition season the cheerleaders spent countless hours working on their routine. All of the work the cheerleaders put in definitely worked out when they finished fourth in state; one of the best finishes in school history.

“We knew we were capable of doing this,” junior Ella Maggio said. “With all of the work we put in we definitely deserved to finish fourth.”

With all of the adversity that the cheer team had during the season, they did a great job overcoming the struggles that came with it. Injuries were the least of the team’s struggles throughout the season, compared to the illnesses that came upon them at the end of the year. Juniors Aubrey Kay, Chloe Grass and Miranda Karrellas got the flu just days before the team traveled down to state.

“Our team did a great job overcoming obstacles,” Maggio said. “That’s what made our team so great.”

Cheerleading had one of the greatest seasons in school history, and they hope to continue this for years to come.
