Chilly Temperatures Swoop In

In contrast to December temperatures, Antioch experiences sudden cold weather.

Freezing temperatures recently arrived for the village of Antioch. These temperatures contrast sharply with warmer weather at the end of 2015. Newscasters predicted a warm winter because of the previous unusually high temperatures. Tuesday, Jan. 12, temperatures are expected to drop to a low of -3. Wind chill values as low as -13 hit the town early this morning with a west northwest wind 15 to 20 mph. To avoid getting frostbite, experts advise dressing in layers and covering all skin. With these extremely low temperatures, frostbite will develop in minutes.

“I always try to start my car 10 minutes before I leave in the morning when it’s this cold,” junior Liana Geraty said. “It helps with defrosting my windshield to make it easier to see.”

Although this weather may seem cold to students currently at Antioch Community High School, the record for the lowest temperature in Antioch is -24 degrees from 1985. Temperatures are expected to rise on Thursday, with highs in the low 30s.
