Grammy Awards Show Features Winners, Outstanding Performances

Singers fill night with moving tributes, technical difficulties, acceptance speeches.

Outstanding performances and heartfelt tributes took place during Monday night’s Grammy Awards show. High points of the show by far were the upbeat and creative performances that were different than ever seen before.

Lady Gaga rocked the stage giving a tribute to the classic rock singer David Bowie. The powerful show was enhanced by constant outfit changes and crazy makeup choices to paint a lighting bolt on Gaga’s face to represent Bowie’s 1973 “Aladdin Sane” album. She performed a combination of Bowie’s classic songs such as “Heroes” and “Space Oddity” as well as slower tunes played on the piano.

The winner of the best R&B Performance and Best Urban Contemporary album, The Weeknd, performed an incredible part of the show. He sang a sped-up mix of the pop hit “Can’t Feel My Face” and then stripped instruments away while singing “In The Night”. The R&B singer had a total of seven nominations for this year’s Grammy Awards show including the biggest ones: Record and Album of the Year.

Next up, Adele unfortunately dealt with many technical issues during her performance. Audio glitches interrupted her ballad “All I Ask”. Her microphone went in and out several times, distracting the singer and making her sound flat. Many of Adele’s fans were disappointed in her performance. She confirmed that there were technological difficulties going on during the performance.

The piano mics fell on to the piano strings; that’s what the guitar sound was,” Adele said via Twitter. “It made it sound out of tune.”

Album of the Year winner and first female singer to win it twice Taylor Swift made an unforgettable acceptance speech bashing on Kanye West. Having beat Kendrick Lamar, Alabama Shakes, The Weeknd and Chris Stapleton for the award, she said in her acceptance speech, “There will be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.”
