Passion, experience and hard work are critical to being successful.

DSC_3278-X3Being able to be a sport’s team captain is a great opportunity. You develop leaderships skills that may help you later in your life. From my experiences in athletics, here are some tips I’ve found helpful to being a good leader and carry your team to success.

  • You should love what you do and be very passionate about the sport.
  • The captain also needs to trust in their team mates. Be a good role model that the whole team looks up to because they want your help and guidance to know that they can trust what you say.
  • You need to let your teammates know what they are doing wrong and what they are doing right. It will benefit them and make them a better athlete.
  • Although some practices are hard you always have to stay positive because your team will work more efficient and together. Through the hard times you need to be able to motivate and inspire your team and don’t let the negative things bring your team down. If a problem does come up, treat the situation calmly and try to find a solution.
  • Have a lot of fun team bonding because having a team that is very close and can count on each other will lead to an unforgettable season.
  • Also, ask for your team mates input let them know that there voice does matter. Always keep working on your leadership skills because no one is perfect.

If you are given the opportunity to be a captain make sure you fulfill that role and work hard and show your team they made the right choice.
