Well-known drug lord Joaquín Guzmán, better known as El Chapo, has been captured recently by authorities. On Jan. 8, the president of Mexico Enrique Peña Nieto tweeted about the capture with “MISSION accomplished.” After six months of searching, the government was able to catch with him after he came into contact with actors Sean Penn and Kate del Castillo.  Because of communication between the two stars and the convict, cartels have threatened Penn and del Castillo’s families. Penn especially has been under attack because text messages allegedly “ratted out” the hiding place of Guzmán.

“I think it’s stupid that he went into the same prison that he escaped from,” said freshman Ashley Hradisky. “He’s a criminal. I don’t understand why anyone would want to write about his life anyways.”

After his numerous escapes, large drug deals and attempts to get a documentary written about his life, Guzmán’s actions prompted Mexican authorities to increase security measure in top federal prisons.
