Food and Concentration

Many of us know each food has its own way of affecting our bodies. Some foods help the brain to remain focused, which is what we all need as high schoolers. Here are some foods to help increase concentration throughout your day:

Blueberries — Studies have shown that eating blueberries can boost concentration and memory for up to five hours due to the antioxidants. They can also protect against cancer, heart disease and dementia.

Green Tea — This will help the brain focus for two reasons: caffeine, which helps improve a person’s alertness, and l’theanine, an ingredient shown to increase the brain’s alpha-wave activity.

Avocados — This strange fruit can enhance blood flow, giving a way for brain cells to become more active as well as more focused.

Fatty Fish — Fish contain omega-3 fatty acids, which helps with memory, mental performance, concentration and mood. Main fatty fish include salmon, trout, mackerel, herring, sardines, pilchards and kipper. Of course, many prefer to take a vitamin instead of eating fish.

Dark Chocolate — Dark chocolate contains magnesium, which helps you de-stress, and it also stimulates the release of endorphins and serotonin, which make a person feel good and brighten moods. However, sugary milk chocolate will not have the same effect.

If you ever find yourself being less focused than usual, try some of these foods. If all else fails, even drinking more water can help you become more awake, more focused and faster thinking.
