“Y-E-L-L, Y-E-L-L,  everybody yell go Sequoits! Go Sequoits! Go Sequoits!”

Antioch Community High School held its annual kick-off game on Friday, Aug. 22, where students watched their classmates and friends play the game they love on the field.

The freshmen had their first experience as Sequoits stepping into the stadium and having the Cardinal Crazies and the rest of the ACHS student section helping to cheer on the football team. The undefeated juniors had their game face on Friday night and showed that they still have their heads in the game.

Senior Jake Lanahan and junior Griffin Hill each scored a touchdown during the scrimmage game. The game ended with a score of 12- 0, showing a great start this season for the Sequoits.

“I think the scrimmage is nice for a couple of reasons. One, it gets our football team ready for their competition next week. Two, it gives us a practice run with all of our students to figure out what kinds of cheers that they want to do,” said ACHS principal Bradford Hubbard.

Hubbard didn’t miss out on the fun during the football scrimmage. He was spotted on the field cheering on his students and making sure that the school spirit was strong.

“It gives us a sense of kicking off the school year with a sense of pride in community without having to worry about another team win or lose but either way a Sequoit always wins,” Hubbard said.

One of the football managers, junior Sara Stefani, also has lots of confidence on the football team.

“In the future games, I think we are going to win,” said Stefani.

The Sequoits are ready to start the 2014 football season, showing the student body that they are ready to bring victory to ACHS. The first game of the season is at home, Friday, Aug. 29 against Tremper High School football team. Varsity will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
