“Love Your Melon” Brings Happiness To Cancer Patients

College students get together to raise awareness for cancer in a new and unique way.

A group of students at University of St. Thomas in St. Paul came up with a simple idea that now brings happiness to cancer patients all over the U.S. “Love Your Melon” is a student-made organization that is on a mission to give every child battling cancer a hat to show support.

The students  started selling the hats on campus, but soon people from all over the country began requesting to buy the fashionable hats. The student-led organization has put in place a buy-one-get-one system. The unique system is set up so that every time a person buys a hat, another hat goes to a child battling cancer.

The way children get the hats are by request. On the “Love Your Melon” website, people can request hats for cancer patients and even hospitals.

“I think ‘Love Your Melon’ hats are so cute. They’re stylish and support a good cause at the same time. I think it is important to recognize that there are others who are in need, and doing something to raise awareness is excellent. It hits close to home for me because I have lost several relatives and friends from cancer. Seeing that someone is raising for a good cause makes me feel better about it,” said junior Karley Rosenquist

There are a variety of hats for sale such as the classic beanie and their latest design, the baseball cap. The original hat was just gray with a pom on the top. There are more colors being added such as burgundy, yellow, blue and even pink. The prices range from $35.00 to $45.00 and all of the money goes to a cancer foundation.

Hats can be purchased at http://www.loveyourmelon.com.
