Navigating the Parking Garage

These handy tips will keep city experiences positive.

Navigating parking garages can be difficult to maneuver, but these tips are sure to keep accidents on the down low and keep city experiences positive. New drivers need to be especially cautious in new surroundings.

Take A Hike:

First thing first, it is important to be wary of the people around. Parking accidents occur all around the country but are often not publicized. To prevent fender benders, it is best to park far away when in parking garages. Although this may sound undesirable, it is a good idea to steer clear of people hurrying through the aisles. It is also courteous to people who cannot travel long distances and need the closer spots. It is less likely to encounter traffic farther away, and leaving will be easier without cars lining up to take a parking spot.

Honk the Horn:

Another great idea is using the horn to alert fellow drivers. This can alert cars who are quickly turning corners that there is traffic up ahead. Do not be afraid to tap the horn and promote safe driving.

Be Cautious:

It is very important to be aware of surroundings and use proper signals. Watch for pedestrians and follow road signs.

Juniors Lexi Miramon and Joe Sculuca share their own parking tips.

“Watch for people and cars backing up or coming near you,” Miramon said. “When you are in the parking lot, make sure you’re watching for pedestrians and cars backing out or coming in.”

Sculuca has similar tips.

“Watch your surroundings and you will be fine,” Sculuca said.

Both of these new drivers have valid points. Sticking to the three tips above are the best way to navigate the terrifying city streets and make the most of a trip to the city.
