Antioch runs out of bounds to stop the clock.

The Antioch Sequoit football team couldn’t survive the Marian Central Hurricanes last Friday on October 27 in the first round of the class 5A playoffs, making this year’s record 9-1.

The chilly weather made the ball slippery and contributed to the Sequoits 4 turnovers, which all added onto the Hurricane’s score.

Halftime concluded with a field goal from Marian’s 25-yard field goal by kicker Matthew Darbro, leaving the Sequoits shutout with a score of 10-0.

Junior linebacker Kevin Tamayo was able to catch a huge interception halfway through the third quarter and was able to push the ball an extra 15 yards. The interception lead to a field goal made my Antioch’s junior kicker Jay Brown in order to put some points on the board making the score 10-3 Marian.

The Marian Hurricanes retaliated and quarterback Gavin Scott scored a touchdown with 22 seconds left in the third quarter making the score 17-3.

Going into the fourth quarter, Antioch’s senior quarterback Branden Gallimore scored the only Sequoit touchdown to make the score 24-9 Marian.

However, the Marian Hurricanes had one last trick up their sleeve and followed through with a clear pass to Pasquale Ricciardi in the end zone, ending the game on a high note with a final score of 31-9.

While the Sequoits lost the game, they had a great season and ended with a back-to-back conference championship title.
