Over the weekend, the Antioch varsity dance team competed at the IHSA sectional held at Mundelein high school. Although it was not their best performance, they still achieved their goal of making it to state coming in 6 out of 17 teams. The team as a whole knows they have several areas to improve on in order to be successful heading down to Bloomington.

“I think our performance was a good representation of what we have worked to improve this season,” junior captain Julia Hackeloer said. “We have a lot to perfect before state this weekend.”

Bringing energy to the team and having a positive mindset is something the Sequoits really are aiming to focus towards this week. Physically and mentally becoming stronger as individuals and working together as a team to perfect the small details is key.

“As a team we need to work on the details and fine tune them,” Hackeloer said. “We need to collectively work as a team to keep motivating each other so we are in best spirits going into state after a hard week.”

With the season coming to an end, there are always little things here and there to be proud of.

“I’m proud of all our hard work throughout the season and how we continue to grow and improve,” junior Maggie Quirke said.

Being a young team is what makes this group so special. Caring for one another and creating such a close bond throughout the season is a way to trust the process and to trust each other to do their part.

Junior captain Kara Galarneau is excited to prove what the Sequoits have been working so hard on this season and hopefully achieve their overall goal together as a family.

“I’m most excited for performing at state with new teammates and new coach,” Galarneau said. “This year is going to be a totally different feeling but I hope to continue our success and grow as a program even with the changes.”
