Sequoits take on the Rams

The Sequoits came just short of the a victory against Grayslake Central in their conference game.

The boys varsity basketball team competed against the Rams from Grayslake Central on Friday, February 2. The game was fast paced and aggressive as the score kept going back and forth between both teams.

In the first quarter of the game, the Sequoits started off strong with high energy, ending the quarter with a 15-9 lead over the Rams. The teamwork and coordination that was incorporated into the game was what helped the Sequoits gain a lead over the Rams in the first quarter.

As the ball moved up and down the court from both teams, the fight to gain a lead was well noticed from the Rams but was not enough when it came time for halftime. The Sequoits stayed in the lead with a score of 29-25, keeping the Sequoits confident as they went into the second half of the game.

“The team was pretty confident going into halftime,” junior Robert Christiansen said. “We started off strong but we weren’t that far ahead when we went into halftime, so we knew there was a chance they could come back. So we just planned on playing how we did in the first half.”

Despite the adrenaline and motivation the Sequoits had to keep their lead over the Rams, they unfortunately caught up to the them in the third quarter bringing the score to 45-40 with just one quarter left in the game.

In the final quarter, the Sequoits fought hard to gain back the lead they had obtained earlier in the game. Unfortunately, the Sequoits fell short to the Rams by eight points ending the game at a score of 64-56.

The boys play next at home against their cross-town rivals from Lakes Community High School on Friday, February 9.
