When it comes to looking for a summer job it is best to begin looking early. Here are some tips and tricks to help make the job search easier.

Looking for summer jobs can be incredibly overwhelming for many teens, however the process is easier than they may think.

For many high school students, a summer job is a great opportunity to gain experience and earn money. There are many options for summer jobs and the whole process can feel overwhelming. Many teens, wonder when the most appropriate time to begin applying for their summertime jobs is. Summer positions tend to fill quickly and according to Indeed, the best time to begin the job search is the period from late February to mid-March. If this is a student’s first job, one major pondering they may have is what belongs on their resume. 

According to Quad Education Group, some beneficial things to put on a first-time resume include volunteer work, extracurriculars, such as clubs and sports, leadership positions one may possess and any challenging classes they have taken. Grade point average and school attendance can also be used on a resume to help show the employer the applicant’s dedication. Another important reason students should begin looking for a job earlier than they think is that some jobs, which are typically filled by teens in the summer, may have a certification needed to begin the job that can easily be obtained. For example, many camp counselor positions require the employee to undergo CPR training. Another common summer job, lifeguarding also requires a lot of training including CPR. 

There are many places students can utilize to look for summer jobs. There are online websites such as Indeed or Glassdoor, and youth job fairs that are held in the spring. Additionally, school counselors can help as they can provide ideas of local places that might be hiring. 

One of the most important tips for finding a summer job is for students to apply for as many positions as they qualify for. According to Monster Jobs, it does not hurt to apply for a multitude of jobs because it makes one’s chances of getting a job more likely, it also gives students more experience applying for and finding a job. Overall finding a summer job is a task that takes time and effort It is important to start early and keep applying.
