Zac Efron, Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller star in this new rated-R, romantic comedy That Awkward Moment that focuses on playing the field and deciding when to start a relationship. Jason (Efron), Daniel (Teller) and Mikey (Jordan) are three best friends living in New York City looking to get lucky.

The movie begins with Mikey finding out that his wife is cheating on him and wants a divorce. The guys spend a night out on the town to cheer Mikey up by going to the bars to pick up girls. In the classic boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, boy screws up and then everything is happy again, Chelsea (Mackenzie Davis) helps Daniel to pick up girls. Jason meets Ellie (Imogen Poots) and they spend the night together. He leaves her in the middle of the night because he thinks she’s a prostitute.

To further help Mikey out with his divorce, the three friends decide to make a pact that they will only play the field and not date.

Jason runs into Ellie again when she shows up at his work to get the cover of her book designed by Jason and Daniel. Jason tells her why he left but she still isn’t sold on him. He finally convinces her to go on a date with him.

The plot thickens and Ellie and Jason’s relationship grows and the guys tease him about how much time he is spending with her. Little does Jason know Daniel has developed a relationship with Chelsea and Mikey starts sleeping with his wife again. Jason goes to Ellie’s birthday party and meets her parents. Then, while out on the town Ellie calls to tell Jason that her dad died. Jason decides not to go to the funeral because he doesn’t want to look like he’s in a relationship with her.

Chelsea and Daniel go to Chelsea’s parents house for Thanksgiving dinner where Jason and Mikey show up unannounced and catch them together. Chelsea was under the impression that Daniel told his friends about their relationship and breaks up with him. Jason is angry because he didn’t want to look like he was starting a relationship with Ellie for the guys and ultimately ruined their relationship. Before Mikey arrived he realized his wife was still cheating on him and that his marriage was really over. Punches are thrown and everyone walks off.

Jason apologized to Mikey and Daniel and tells Daniel to go tell Chelsea that he wants her. He gets hit by a car, but is okay and ends up back with Chelsea in the hospital. Mikey called a girl who gave him her number in the beginning of the movie.

Two weeks pass and the guys encourage Jason to try to get Ellie back. He shows up at her book discussion and pretends to read his book in front of the whole room. She lets a tear fall after his speech and he waits hours for her in a park. She finally came and they ended up back together.

That Awkward Moment was a typical romantic comedy. If you’re a teenage girl looking for something cute to see this month, this is a winner. If you’re a teenage boy being forced to see a cute movie with your girlfriend, this movie has hilarious bromance moments for you, too. It was very cheesy at points and the acting wasn’t the most amazing I’ve ever seen, but it still was a good movie. I’d definitely recommend it. It really focuses on trying to decide when to stop dating around and actually “date”.

It was a perfect balance between a cheesy romance and a raunchy comedy. Zac Efron, Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan are funny together and really make the movie hilarious.
