Top 5: Women’s Track and Field Colleges

Women’s track and field is taking the college world by storm.

  1. A big reason why the University of Colorado is top ranked in women’s track and field is because of Emma Coburn. Coburn is ranked number three in the country in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
  2. NC state looks to climb up from last year’s 7th place ACC finish and 17th place NCAA meet result. This season will be powered by its abundance of distance talent; key players include seniors Erika Kemp and Megan Moye. Kemp broke the indoor school record in the 5,000 meter at the 2016 NCAA Indoor Championships. Moye set the outdoor record in the 1,500 meter with a mark of 4:11.91.
  3. Providence look to the strength of their distance runners to score most of the team points. Junior Millie Paladino ran a mile with a time of 4:34.49, which is the third fastest mile in school history and the ninth fastest time in the nation this year. The Friars hope to improve on their 6th place finish in the Big East Championships.
  4. Stanford was ecstatic to have a commit with a national team background. Julia Heymach ran for the United States at the World Youth Championships in 2015. She is also a four time state champion at the most populous division in Texas. Her most impressive runs include a 4:45 mile and 2:05 800 meter run.
  5. University of Michigan’s Erin Finn is one of the top runners in the nation for the 5,000 meter. Last year she ran 15:32.45 for third place, and this year she is ranked second and looking to have a big year for the Wolverines.
