Varsity field hockey began their regular season with a rough start this past Thursday against North Shore Country Day High School. The girls gave it their all, but were shut out 6-0.

The first half started off rapidly with two goals from North Shore. However, defense was able to hold them off and did not allow many corners from the opposing team.

“The Sequoits were quick but North Shore Country Day was quicker,” senior Sean Weiser said.

Senior Carolyn Miller had numerous clean passes and noteworthy saves.  Senior Zoe Semersky was certainly also able to practice her goalkeeping skills and senior Karina Steitz was able to practice her sweeps and drives.

“It’s tough having our first game against a team that won second in state last year, but you can learn a lot from those talented players,” Steitz said.

Even with the tough loss, the team is still optimistic about their upcoming season.

Come see the girls at their next game at Naperville North High School on August 27 at 7:30 pm.
