Responsible, Respectful and Proud. These are the words to live by once students and staff enter the halls of Antioch Community High School. One way one to represent these words is to be a role model to those of ACHS and around the community. Lakes Community High School and ACHS have a conjoined with the Antioch Rotary to form Interact Club so students can give back to their community.

Interact Club is the student version of the Rotary Club, which is an organization in which members perform services to give back to those around them.  Many of the services involve fundraising and volunteering at Open Arms Mission. Many people volunteer through Rotary and Interact for the greater good and to give back to the less fortunate in the community.

“We currently fund raised money for the EdPowerment program for the school in Africa to fund the lunch program from the year, we essentially are feeding 100 [people] lunch for an entire year,” Interact co-sponsor Colleen Buzby said.

Buzby takes a lot of her own time in order to support this, and does it for the greater good of helping other people. She truly makes an impact on not only her own students, but also a wide variety of people by helping fund raise during Interact.

“[Interact Club] can open up scholarships for students, and get community service hours for NHS,” said Jasmine DeLara, the ACHS president of Interact.

Members of the Interact Club not only help others, but also reap the benefits themselves.

Overall, Interact Club helps many and is enjoyable to take part in. While raising money there are games and parties interspersed during meetings, which make life not only better for members but others as well.

The club meets Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. in the IDEA Center.
