Former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff was impeached on Thursday amid scandal allegations.

1. ‘ROARING 20S’ PROM CLOSES OUT YEAR WITH STYLE

The annual upperclassman dance took place at the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa on Saturday night. Juniors Sean Bering and Brooke Menzies won this year’s prom king and queen. The night was the last school dance for seniors, who graduate next Sunday.

2. BRAZILIAN PRESIDENT IMPEACHED

Former president Dilma Rousseff was impeached last Thursday amid speculation that she used illegal tactics to hide government deficit. South America’s largest economy will now be led by Michel Temer, who hopes to lead the country from its largest recession since the 1930s and finalize preparations for the Summer Olympics in July.

3. HONORS NIGHT RECOGNIZES DESERVING SENIORS

Dozens of awards, scholarships and other recognitions were given to a crowd of mostly seniors last Tuesday night. The night finished with the presentation of two full-ride scholarships, awarded to seniors Serena Chapa and Lauren Klees. In addition, the Outstanding Senior Boy and Girl awards were given to Nathan Borries and Ashley Hare.

4. CURRY WINS MVP AMID PLAYOFF RUN

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry won the first unanimous MVP award in NBA history last week. Curry led the Warriors to an NBA record 73 wins while making 116 more three point shots than the previous three point record, set by himself the previous year. The Warriors play the red-hot Oklahoma City Thunder next week for a trip to the NBA Finals.

5. CLASS COUNCIL MEMBERS LEADERS ANNOUNCED

Two weeks of campaigning ended on Friday for student council leadership positions. Sophomore leaders are Zoe Semersky, Cale Wolf, Eleni Sakas, Bradley Parfitt and Allison Hoffelder. Junior leaders are RJ Vasquez, Jordan Delara, Sally Bessette, Amber Blake and Skylar Loos. Senior leaders include Jack Connelly, Gabrielle Kalisz, Kristina Esdale, Jack Klem and Alexandra Comer.

6. MISPLACED FAKE BOMB EVACUATES ENGLISH SOCCER STADIUM

The final game of Manchester United’s season was postponed when an “incredibly lifelike explosive device” was found under the stands at the team’s home stadium. A controlled explosion destroyed the device, which local police later deemed not “viable”. The device was identified as a fake device left after a training exercise.

7. YEARLY THEATER AWARDS HONOR ACTORS AND ACTRESSES

The awards, called “The Teddys”, after theater instructor Wanda Teddy, recognized many accomplished thespians for performances throughout the year. Big winners of the night included sophomore RJ Vasquez, junior Paige Hope and senior Weston Fox.

8. RUSSIA UNDER SCRUTINY FOR CHEATING IN SOCHI

A New York Times report accused 15 Sochi Olympic medal winners of participating in government-sponsored doping. Russia apologized for their actions on Sunday, but still remains unlikely to participate in the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games this summer.

9. GIRLS TRACK MEMBERS MAKE STATE

A handful of girls qualified for the state championship meet last week. The 4×100 meter and 4×200 meter relays qualified alongside Mikayla Christian and Sabrina Long, who both qualified in the discus throw. Long also qualified in the shot put.

10. TRUMP FACES GROWING BACKLASH FROM MEDIA

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has come under the fire of a variety of reports this week amidst turmoil in the Republican party. A New York Times article criticized Trump’s treatment of women, while The Washington Post revealed an audio tape which appears to feature Trump posing as a spokesman for himself.
