Anonymous Donor Gives New York Times One Million Dollars For Student Subscriptions

Founded in 1851, The New York Times has become one of the most influential and powerful news sources in the world. The New York Times has recently added a “Sponsor A Subscription Program,” which allows donors to sponsor a subscription to The Times website.

The New York Times has received more than 15,500 donations, helping more than 1.3 million students gain access to The Times’ website.

Donations to this program range anywhere from as little to $4, to as much as $1 million. The $1 million donation came from an anonymous sponsor, and because of this huge donation, a sponsorship will be provided for an estimated 330,000 students for a whole year.

Along with every donation to provide for a student, for every donation made, The New York Times will provide a subscription to one other student.

Even though the organization is only providing these sponsored subscriptions to students in the United States, over 830 contributions have come from outside of the country.

Along with this subscription, The New York Times will be establishing a series of web seminars that will be aimed at their new, young readers. These seminars will be including topics such as  personal finance, news literacy, immigration, climate change and the Supreme Court.
