Sequoit wrestlers enjoy Happy Joe’s Pizza after a great tournament in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Over the weekend, the Antioch Community High School varsity wrestling team traveled to Bettendorf, Iowa for an annual wrestling tournament. The team fought hard both individually and as a whole, coming out in seventh place out of 16 teams with a total of 138 points.

With his outstanding performance, sophomore Alex Barbarise came out on top for the Sequoits, placing the highest on the team with a second place finish.

“I feel like I wrestled a lot better than I usually do,” Barbarise said. “I have improved a lot since the start of the season.”

Each member of the wrestling team worked exceptionally hard to get the result they ended with at the tournament. All members of the team are equally as important as the others, but the roles some individuals play on the team may differ.

Junior captain Mikey Volkmar and senior captain RJ Vazquez are both proud of the team’s dedication and accomplishments throughout this season.

“Everyone works hard everyday and it has been showing during our duals and tournaments,” Vazquez said.

After a long, hard fought weekend in Iowa, the wrestlers are proud of their accomplishments and have a good mentality as they continue preparing for the rest of their season. See their hard work pay off on Thursday, January 18 at ACHS.
