From the first camera, created in the 1800s, to the brand new technology now—cameras have come a long way. They started off as giant boxes that took hours to use and have transitioned into tiny lenses that could fit just about anywhere. Most people own at least one camera, whether it be inside of a smart phone or not, but it hasn’t always been that way.

Cameras have continued to get smaller and smaller throughout the years, as well as more advanced with the ability to capture higher quality photos. The first camera sale was in 1888 and, since then, countless cameras have been sold in stores across the world.

“I take snapchat photos everyday,” junior Grace Weber said. “I take other [pictures] about once a week with friends at football games.”

It’s easier for most to pull out smart phones and take photos instead of putting the effort into using an actual camera. However, smart phone cameras are beginning to compete with the quality of the standard point and shoot cameras, but they are not quite at the level of DSLRs.

“I feel like it would take longer [to take pictures] with an actual camera,” Weber said.

No matter how advanced our cameras will become, the importance of taking photos will never disappear.
