COLUMN: The Importance of Being Active

DSC_3329-X3Of course students are encouraged to stay healthy and active, but many students are only active in gym class for the grade. What many students fail to realize is the many reasons staying active and being healthy is good.

“Staying active helps me stay in shape, when I’m not, I just feel lazy,” junior Annie Horner said.

According to betterhealth.gov, staying active helps with having one feel better, reduce sickness, as well as getting better and more relaxed sleep. For high school students sleep is a priority, so if staying active helps with sleeping at night, why not workout?

When one is living a healthy lifestyle, they look and feel healthy. With a healthier state of mind it results in one having a positive attitude. Being active has nothing but good aspects: good health, good attitude, and a healthy life.

For juniors and seniors, prom is creeping around the corner. Wouldn’t you want to look your absolute best during a night to remember? Every day is a new day to start a new habit, and being active is the best habit to have.

If you want to look good and feel good, get up and do something. You don’t have to kill yourself doing a workout, but even getting up and taking a walk or yoga is a step in the right direction towards a better lifestyle.
