Disney’s most iconic character, Mickey Mouse, has worked his way into the majority of the company’s advertising. This includes different logos and merchandise, such as this design.

Disney+ was originally announced in September of 2019 and launched November 12, 2019 as a streaming service for Apple TV, iOS, Android and Xbox One. Disney+ offers a collection of movies, television shows and short films. This new streaming service was a surprise for many people, especially the individuals that grew up watching Walt Disney content.

Disney+ offers a wide variety of content with the oldest movies available dating back to the 1920s. Along with its older movies, Disney+ also carries new Disney+ originals. Some of the Disney+ originals include shows such as “The Mandalorian” and “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.”

According to Disney Tourist Blog, Disney+ is the Walt Disney essential version of Netflix. However, it offers a wider variety of content, from its collaborations with Pixar, Marvel and National Geographic.

According to CNET, an American media website formerly known as Computer Network, Disney+ was designed to compete with other streaming services including Netflix, Peacock, Apple TV Plus, Hulu and HBO Max.

Junior Kaitlyn Stark is familiar with streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu and has been a Walt Disney fan since she was young; when she heard about Disney+ through friends and family she decided to look into it.

“I was really excited about Disney+ because I love all Disney content,” Stark said. “Ever since I discovered Disney+, it is all that I have watched and I haven’t touched Netflix or Hulu since. Disney+ has so much more than I thought it would.”

Sophomore Veronica Henkel has also been a Walt Disney fan for as long as she can remember. She started watching the Walt Disney princess movies, specifically Cinderella and The Little Mermaid, when she was young and now she continues to watch a lot of Walt Disney creations.

“I love that it has all the television shows that I used to watch when I was younger,” Henkel said. “They offer a lot more than I thought they would, including recent movies.”

Over ten million people signed up for Disney+ on its release day and over twenty-four million people signed up by the third week of it being launched. This shows how much attention the new streaming device attracted from the beginning.

According to CNET, Disney+ proves to be a competitor to other streaming services with the amount of people that signed up within the first 24 hours of its release. The Disney+ release caught many people by surprise and there are Walt Disney viewers of all ages, especially children and teenagers.
