On Friday  Nov. 14, Antioch Community High School students with cars were awarded. That is, if they made the smart and safe decision to wear a seat belt while driving.

This year, Antioch students are working with Operation Teen Safe Driving (OTSD), and the program is intended to promote teen safe driving within the community and school. One of the requirements to be part of OTSD is to do seat belt checks, just like the one that was done on Friday.

Teri Klobnak, who helps advise the Antioch side of the organization, reported Friday that students who helped with OTSD seat belt check found that 86% of drivers wear seat belts, 69% of passengers wear seat belts, and 57% of backseat passengers wear seat belts.

This year is the first that Antioch is participating in the organization. The hope was to aware students who got candy, and those who didn’t, of the importance of wearing seat belts, and the dangers of not.
