The girls during a timeout

On September 12, the girls varsity volleyball team faced off at home against Round Lake. The girls prepared long and hard for this game because it was their first home game and they wanted to show everyone they were ready.

“We practiced a lot and it really just paid off,” junior Chloe Martinez said.

In the first set, the girls played strong defense with multiple blocks and great digs to keep themselves in the game against Round Lake. The Sequoits and Panthers went back and forth making it really close towards the end of the set when finally, the first set ended with Antioch winning 25-21.

“I’m so happy that our defense was on fire and it worked in our favor,” junior Grace Regnier said.

In the second set, the girls continued playing well. They came out fast and the offense put Round Lake on their heels. This continued throughout the game and the Sequoits ended the second set winning 25-18 and defeating the Panthers 2-0.

“Overall, we played well and I just hope we can continue this pace and beat the next team,” senior Ayanna Tommy said.

The girls have another home game Monday the 16 against Zion. The team and coaching staff hope to power through the upcoming practices and continue pushing each other.
