How to: Edible Play-Doh

Two recipes for making Play-Doh that is fun and edible.

Edible Play-Doh is great for children because it is not sticky, it is edible and it is easy and fun to make. It is great when children play with this Play-Doh because there is no toxin in this Play-Doh.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup peanut butter
  • 1 ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened
  • food coloring (optional)

Directions: 

  1. Mix peanut butter, powdered sugar and butter together.
  2. For multiple colors, take food coloring and knead into the mix until desired color.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon cream of tartar
  • 2 cups water
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 (0.13 ounces) unsweetened soft drink mix (like Kool-Aid)
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil

Directions:

  1. Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan; remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Whisk together the flour, salt, cream of tartar, and soft drink mix in a large bowl; stir the vegetable oil into the flour mixture using a spoon, not a whisk.
  3. Pour the hot water into the bowl and continue stirring.
  4. When the dough is cool enough to handle, turn it onto a lightly-floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes.
  5. Store unused portions in refrigerator.
