Wrestling won many tough matches to beat their biggest rivals, Lakes.

On Thursday, January 12 the Varsity wrestling team took defeated Lakes Community High School, beating them by 33 points. The Sequoit wrestlers had the home advantage during this meet.

“I did my best personally, and I did everything I could to help my team as well,” freshman Adam Lynn said.

When the Sequoits were competing against their biggest rivals, the nerves start kicking in at full force. Most wrestlers prepare for every meet exactly the same, as they were told they should by head coach, Wilbur Borrero.

“I prepared just as I would for any meet, but with more fire knowing we were wrestling our rival,” junior Rolando Vazquez said.

The team as a whole has been on their ‘A’ game. They are just preparing themselves so that they can be the best at the sport that they love. Many of the athletes set personal goals before this meet in particular.

“Personally I wanted to win my match,” Vazquez said. “I didn’t succeed in doing that but I know when regionals comes around I will be ready to win against the same opponent.”
