Antioch Community High School faced Lakes and Round Lake in a conference wrestling meet on Wednesday Jan.19. Antioch defeated Lakes with a score of 66-12 and beat Round Lake 62-17. Many of Antioch’s wrestlers won in meaningful fashion. Junior Caleb Nobling pinned his Round Lake opponent in under one minute. The Sequoits ended the meet on top of the Panthers and Eagles.

Freshman Gavin Hanrahan won his match against Round Lake’s (106) wrestler. Hanrahan has brought a high level of experience to the team at a young age. He has wrestled his whole life and grown in to the sport as he has gotten older. He looks to make the IHSA State Tournament this year and continue to improve throughout his career at ACHS.

“I was happy about winning the match because one of the kids that I lost to this year lost to the kid that I just beat,” Hanrahan said.

Junior Donny Carson continues to have an amazing season in his first year of varsity wrestling. He has made huge strides and is getting better every day. Carson lost his match, but he has learned from his mistakes and will improve on what he did wrong. Overall Crason is looking forward to being a big part of the wrestling program for the rest of his highschool career.

“I think I need to work on the neutral aspect of wrestling and work on get ups for the regional tournament,” Carson said.

Nobling is one of Antioch’s best wrestlers. He has won countless matches in his highschool career and made a IHSA State tournament appearance his freshman year. His junior year is looking promising, he has hopes of making another state run this year. Nobling wrestled in the new D117 Field house for the first time and has nothing but praise for it.

“The new field house was really fun. I like the open space there is instead of just some boring gym,” Nobling said.
