Sports Authority may be filing for bankruptcy within the next few days. The store faults the influx of online shoppers rather than people going to the actual store. Shopping online includes many advantages, such as not having to go to the store and better deals. However, the impact has caused Sports Authority to incrue debt, having to repay $343 million by Valentine’s Day.

Considering Sports Authority has a 25-year contract with the Denver Broncos to advertise their brand on their stadium for six million dollars a year, a bankruptcy for Sports Authority would also negatively impact that team.

It is likely in the future that Sports Authority will eliminate 150 to 200 of their 450 stores in the United States. Sports Authority already has to compete with other brands such as Nike, Adidas and Dick’s Sporting Goods, companies that have all adapted to online shoppers and changes in the sports market. Sports Authority had opened in 1928, but failure to adapt to the times could spell further financial woe.
