Fifth generation networks to replace 3G and 4G internet speeds in late 2017.

The concept of fifth generation wireless systems has been discussed by many technology companies since the widespread implementation of 4G. However, Intel recently spoke about a new 5G modem chip for mobile phones at the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas.

This 5G modem chip would be capping our standard on the 4G telecommunication system, and have speeds anywhere from 100 to 500 times faster than the current LTE network. This up and coming system provides technology to support speeds over five gigabits per second, meaning that 5G would take a second to download a max of 625 megabytes of data.

“With this increase in bandwidth (data transmission rates) it is hard to not be impressed with this new technology,” senior Daren Roman said.

This modem will give companies that first step in testing 5G for their future devices and other systems such as mobile phones, home broadband, and even vehicles. According to the Wall Street Journal, Intel wants to make the 5G modem available towards the end of 2017.

Although it is supplying further information on the new 5G advancements, Intel is not the only company trying to take a lead on this project. Other companies such as Verizon, AT&T and Korea Telecom continue to make claims of developing new 5G modems. So far, each of these companies are in the stages of regulation and adjustment,yet have not officially released the modem to the public. As of now, the possibilities of 5G and what it has in store for the future are endless.

“It is now just a matter of time until this kind of technology will be placed in most devices,” Roman said.
