Every year, there is a Volley for the Cure game between the Antioch Community High School and Lakes Community High School volleyball teams to raise awareness and support breast cancer. This year, the game was held on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at ACHS.

Retired ACHS P.E. and health teacher Carla Thompson started Volley for the Cure in 2002, She herself was diagnosed with breast cancer. This year, the Sequoits lost to the Eagles in a three game series, losing each with scores of 25- 8, 26-24 and 15-8.

“I feel like we could have done much better, but we had fun and we played for a great cause,” said ACHS senior and Varsity Volleyball player Hannah Skoog. “We could of been louder and more energetic and be smarter with our hits to change the outcome.”

ACHS Varsity Volleyball coach Jamie Atkinson said, “The night was amazing. We sold over 90 raffles tickets. It was so great many fans dressed in pink. To change the outcome of the game, I feel that we needed to block more and hit the ball in the court: two simple things that could easily be fixed.”

Even though the Sequoits did not get the win, the important factor was that two rival schools were able to come together and raise money and awareness for an amazing cause.
