Junior Donald Barnett heads down to Bloomington.

On Monday, Oct. 4, junior Donald Barnett qualified for the IHSA state golf tournament. The sectional tournament was held at Kishwaukee Country Club in Dekalb, Ill. Barnett shot seven over par, 77, to qualify for state.

“My Performance was pretty solid,” Barnett said. “I played pretty [well] the whole round.”

Barnett was happy with his performance. In any round of golf, one might have a few shots that ideally could have gone better, but there was only one time when Barnett believed he could have made a better decision.

“In every round, you can think of a few shots that you wish you didn’t hit,” Barnett said. “One I didn’t wish I hit was the decision to hit my driver on the 17th hole.”

Overall, Barnett was very happy with how he played during his round on Monday. Now that he has made it to state, he has many goals that he would like to achieve. One of the main things that he wants to do is to play better than he did at the sectional tournament.

“The first goal is to make it to the second day, the second goal is to place and bring a medal back to Antioch,” Barnett said.  “Score-wise, I would like to shoot sub 77 on the first day to improve on my score from sectionals.”

Barnett hopes to play well at the state tournament and looks forward to competing with other golfers at his level. He is hoping to make it to the second day and to bring home a medal for Antioch.
