Winter sports practices started this week, and quickly their seasons are approaching. Girls basketball’s first Varsity scrimmage is coming up this Friday, November 11. They then have the weekend off until their first invitational on Monday, November 14 in Vernon Hills at 7:30 PM.

Last year the girls team had a great season but ended up losing in the sectional semifinal to Saint Viator 58-45. Girls Varsity basketball player, sophomore Piper Foote said that Alexis Deuhr, and Maddy Murillo were big losses to the team this season. She explained how Deuhr was important to them, being a strong shooter from the outside, and Murillo was vital because of her height. Foote believes that the team members this year will step in and fill those roles.

This year the girls basketball program added a new defensive coach, Tim Bowen to their staff. With the trio of head coach Tim Borries, along with coaches Jamie D’Andea and Bowen, there is alway a coach paying attention and helping players. That puts more pressure on the players during practices and helps the team. Foote explained her optimism for this upcoming season.

“I think we’re going to do really well we have a new defense and a new offense and our new defensive coach is pushing us hard,” Foote said. “I’m hoping we can make it to state; I think we can. We just have to work as a team.”

Foote further explain how captains Amy Reiser and Ashley Reiser are looking like they are going to lead the team this year, and that they are stepping up this year for the team during the practices so far.

Coming off of a successful season, the team is looking forward to see what they will do this year.
