Cross country takes lots of endurance and dedicated athletes who are willing to compete in any conditions. Junior Alex Knight is one of those athletes. This lady Sequoit was first introduced to cross country in middle school when she was in sixth grade. She was already interested in running, but she’s never ran for a team before, so Knight decided she’ll put her talents to use for the Antioch Upper Grade School Warriors. Ever since then she’s enjoyed the sport and has been using running not only as a sport, but as a stress reliever.

“I wanted to do a sport that was kind of hard, but enjoyable. I loved running before then because when I run it helps me think and clears my mind,” Knight said.

With all the hard work and dedication this Sequoit has put in, she was bound to conquer a few goals throughout her cross country career. One in which she was bumped up to JV from running opening races, and accomplished this by beating a few girls in those races. This showed the coaches her talent and that she has what they were looking for to represent the Sequoits. During the season, Knight had a concussion which soon changed her main goal to just finishing a race. Prior to her concussion, Knight’s goals were in a different direction and mainly focused on improving her running game to fight for first place during every race.

“My goals in cross country would have to be just to get better. Honestly that’s the only goal I have,” Knight said. “I was out for so long because of my concussion from cross country so I am gaining everything back still.”

Our fellow Sequoit trains like no other and wants to make a real impact on the cross country community.

“Alex had a concussion during the season, but when she came back she still worked hard and competed with everything she had while keeping a great attitude,” teammate Hailey Hall said.

Knight has ran for six seasons now and will finish her cross country career here at Antioch due to her not attending college right away. Instead this Sequoit plans to join the Army first before she attends college. Knight goes on to say running will always be a part of her life and she’ll compete with herself, but no longer for a team. She will be returning next year prepared for the season hopefully at one hundred percent and ready to contribute to the wins the cross country team will be racking up. This Sequoit is a true athlete who won’t let anything get in her way from doing the sport that she loves.
